Back on the 12th September, I was lucky enough to be able to attend the FunFest Blogger Summit in Whittlebury Hall near Milton Keynes. I’d seen the event advertised for quite a while, and thought that I would love to go along, but wrote it off as being too far away, and a little bit too much of a challenge with a six month old little boy.
But then, two days before the conference, Rob said that he would be happy to spend the day with our little munchkin, and that I should go along. So on the evening of Friday 11th September, I found myself setting my first alarm clock since I went into hospital to be induced, and getting up and ready at 5am, ready to hit the road at 6.
It was a bit of a hairy journey. As I’d decided to go at the last minute, I didn’t have time to print any business cards, so I stayed up late making my own, meaning I’d only had four hours sleep.
I decided it might be a good idea to stop for a coffee en-route, to perk me up a bit, but since I don’t really drink any caffeine, it just made me feel pretty poorly instead of giving me an energy boost! I was very pleased when I finally arrived at the venue, around 3 hours after I had left home.
The morning consisted of a blogger conference, and once it had begun, I felt so much better as I got so involved in listening to the speakers. First up was Janey Lee Grace, Radio 2 presenter and Parenting Expert. I had been so looking forward to hearing her speak, I’ve been a fan of hers since I read her books, ‘Imperfectly Natural Woman’, ‘Imperfectly Natural Home’, and more recently, ‘Imperfectly Natural Baby and Toddler’. It’s as a result of reading her last book that I chose to use cloth nappies with Frey, and I’m so glad that I did.
Following Janey Lee Grace was a fantastic line-up of speakers, including Vicki Psarias from Honest Mum, pictured above, who gave the story of how her blog became the success it is. I wrote pages and pages of notes throughout the conference and came away feeling very inspired.
Next up, it was lunchtime, and the catering was amazing. There seemed to be an endless supply of hot food, the prettiest stand full of cakes and desserts, and even some pretty fantastic vegan options. And chips, lots of chips..
In the afternoon, there was chance to look around the Funfest Blogger Summit brand ambassador expo, which included a number of different themed rooms where brands were exhibiting their new products. Chuggington were there, and JCB trucks for the children to try out. Much of the brands were more suitable for older children, but I did find a few things that were perfect for Frey, and I was so happy to bring him home a bag full of goodies!
I met some lovely people at Funfest, it was great to be able to chat to other bloggers. And I also got to meet Tatty Ted, who was ever so friendly. Frey was so impressed that I got to meet him in real life…
Vicki at Honest Mum has written a post about the day here which includes her keynote speech, which is well worth a read if you’re a blogger.
It was a fantastic day, and the journey home was much easier than the journey there, as I was absolutely buzzing with ideas and inspiration!
And I’m pleased to report that Frey had a lovely day with Daddy. I’m not sure they even noticed I was away…
