Reasons to be cheerful #3

Coffee Shop

I’ve been having a little bit of a break from blogging. I was planning a break from blogging as we were supposed to be going on our holidays this week, a final trip away before Frey starts in nursery and I start back at work. But, for various reasons we haven’t made it away, and I thought I’d take that little break anyway. It’s been a very sad week, but that’s not what I’m writing about here, this is another ‘Reasons to be cheerful’ – as there are always some, underneath the sadness. Here’s what has been making me happy this past week…

Drinking Coconut Water from a Coconut

I saw these coconuts in the supermarket and thought they looked fun. It was a bit like hard work to hack it open one morning but Frey and I shared the coconut water, and he actually drank it rather than dribble it down his chin as he does with tap water – success!

Market Groceries

Buying fresh fruit and veg from the market

We took a trip to the market on Saturday morning, especially to go to the fruit and vegetable stall. It’s one that sells bowls full of different produce for £1 each. I came home with all of this for £10. So far I’ve made a strawberry and avocado smoothie, sweet potato fries with lettuce, banana ‘nice’ cream with pear and mango sauce and….

Homemade Sushi

Homemade Sushi

I filled this with cucumber, sweet red pepper and avocado. It was amazing. I love getting creative in the kitchen, I’ve got a few more things I’d like to try this week too, especially some more flavours of the banana ‘nice’ cream. I took the photograph before I rolled the sushi up as I was going to make a little sushi tutorial for the blog. But I then realised how simple making sushi was – all you need to do is buy some sushi rice and nori sheets, and follow the instructions on the packet!

Magic Painting

Magic Painting

Adult colouring books are all very well, but what if you only have one or two precious hours to yourself each day, if that? Well here’s the answer.. magic painting! I saw this book today in the post office and it transported me back to being a kid, I’d completely forgotten the existence of magic painting books, so I had to pick it up. It’s for Frey. But I’m sure he won’t mind if I just have a quick try myself will he…?

Wood burner

Being stocked up for winter

I don’t think my fireplace has ever looked like this! I had a delivery of logs last week and as Rob was staying, he stacked them all by the fire for me. So now I can stay toasty on these stormy nights.

Soft Play

This little man

Have I mentioned before that this little man makes me happy? I think I may have done! Today I took him to soft play, and he had his first play in a ball pool. I had to get in with him, they’re another thing I used to love when I was little. The soft play centre had a bouncy castle too but I didn’t venture onto that.. I shall have to take him back again for another play! It is fun being a mum to a little one.. colouring books, bouncy castles.. not to mention the lego that he got for Christmas which only came out after he went to bed. Well he’s too small for lego just yet isn’t he?!

I love everything you’ve done with the fruit and veg, I should look up some recipes and get tips to get my kids to eat more. Also the log fire looks like it’ll keep you toasty on cold evenings. #fartglitter

Frey in nursery and you back to work, boy time flies doesn’t it! I have a pot of hyacinths I picked up at M&S a couple of weeks ago. They are really blooming now and smell so nice. That small promise of Spring is what’s making me happy this week.

I know, it’s gone so quickly! I’m loving the promise of spring too, I bought some daffodils today to cheer the place up, I just need to put them out of reach of little hands! x
