3D Art Adventures Review and Giveaway

3D Art Adventures

One of the best things about being a child is the freedom to be as creative as you like when it comes to art, without having the critical eye which often comes with creativity in adulthood. I’m discovering, one of the wonderful things about being a parent is nurturing this creativity – and of course, joining in with it too!

I was excited to hear about the new book ‘3D Art Adventures  – Over 35 Creative, Artist Inspired Projects in Sculpture, Ceramics, Textiles and More’ from Maja Pitamic and Jill Laidlaw, published by Modern Books.

Three-dimensional art – whether sculpture, ceramics, installations, textiles or collage – combines the visual with the physical, making it perfect for kids (and adults) who enjoy using their hands and getting a little messy.

The book introduces you to key works of three-dimensional art, from ancient Greek sculpture to contemporary installations. It includes an installation from Claes Oldenburg who is one of my favourite artists, I’ve been in awe of his work since visiting an exhibition of his when I was working for my GCSE art, which was quite a long while ago! The book then uses these works of art to inspire related art activities. They’re simple, easy to follow and designed with children in mind.

Every activity contains a detailed materials list and clear step-by-step instructions paired with photographs and tips from the authors.

There is a fabulous project for a ‘winged wall hanging’ which draws on elements from Donatello’s Annunciation – and whilst I think Frey is a little young for such detail, I love the idea of us making a wall hanging together for his room. I anticipate that this book will last us for years as we discover the new projects as he gets a little older.
