Time to unwind…

Being the parent of a toddler is an amazing job, rewarded by the best things in life, smiles, laughter and love. As well as this, it is also completely full on and pretty exhausting! I often hear parents say they look forward to nap times and bed times so they can have some time for themselves to unwind, but then inevitably find themselves using that time to rush about doing all the jobs that need doing around the house. Tidying the toys away, doing the washing or the dishes, and before you know it, nap time is over and the chaos begins again!

It is however, SO important to have time to yourself, to relax and unwind and focus on you. As the saying goes, happy parent, happy child. Many a morning I have regretted staying up late doing ‘jobs’ when Frey is raring to go after a lovely night’s sleep, and I haven’t got my hours in!

There are so many little things you can do to unwind. For me, I often like to feel like I have achieved something. That’s why I like to blog, to garden, and to craft.

At the moment, one of my favourite things to do in the evening is to make pom poms! There’s something so tempting about piles of pretty yarn, and as I can’t knit or crochet, it’s pom poms all the way. I can do it on the sofa, with something playing on you tube in the background, and I now have a pile of pretty pom poms for Frey to throw around the room! I do plan on doing something else with the pom poms, I’ll let you know about that another time!

Sometimes though, the biggest and most important achievement is to simply feel well rested. Just to curl up with a book and a cup of tea, light a scented candle or burn some aromatherapy oils, or listen to a meditation CD and just drift away..

Go on, add it to your to do list today – take some time to unwind!

Rattan Direct are carrying out a survey at the moment to find out what parents do to unwind around the home. Pop over to https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/37BFHD9 to let them know! I’ll share the results with you once they’re in.

Have a lovely weekend – and remember to take some time for yourself!
