Loving Cruelty Free Beauty Treats

“‎Lipstick is really magical. It holds more than a waxy bit of color – it holds the promise of a brilliant smile, a brilliant day, both literally and figuratively.”
― Roberta Gately

Happy Valentines Day!

I’ve really enjoyed getting ready for Valentines this year, I made some heart shaped cookies for my children, and decorated the living room with heart shaped balloons and bunting as a surprise for them this morning. Any excuse for a celebration – and they do love a balloon or two! Santa took the credit again though… it’s always Santa who leaves treats in the house after the excitement of Christmas!

As for me, I decided to treat myself to some new make-up. Spring is always a good time to refresh my make-up bag I feel, and it’s not something I purchase regularly, so to try some new pieces is a real treat.

As I’ve mentioned, finding vegan cosmetics can be a bit tricky, but I discovered an amazing blog called Ethical Elephant, which is a cruelty free and vegan lifestyle blog, and has a huge list of 100% vegan cosmetics. I’ve added it to my favourites to refer to whenever I’m shopping for beauty products. And I managed to find some lovely new brands that I haven’t tried before.

Magic of Makeup

Firstly, the Mary-Lou Manizer from The Balm.

theBalm Cosmetics boasts a complete line of makeup, skin care, hair care and nail polish. With a “beauty in five minutes” philosophy, theBalm’s multi-use, mega fabulous products have become its calling card, offering quick fixes and wondrous solutions for a wide range of beauty wants and needs. The company’s wearable colors and fantastic formulas allow women to release their inner artist so they can look and feel fabulous.

Beauty in 5 minutes is definitely something that drew me in – as I put on my make-up in the morning with a small toddler crawling around my feet, who this morning discovered the ability to open the bedroom door and toddle out of it! (Thank goodness for the latch that we added when his big brother discovered the same thing!)

The Mary Lou Manizer (aka ‘The Luminizer’) is a multi purpose product – a highlighter, shimmer, and eyeshadow. I absolutely love highlighter, it’s wonderful for hiding dark circles in the inner corners of my eyes, and for a little shimmer on the top of my cheekbones.

Available for £15.00 (a discount of 25%) from Just My Look.

Stainiac

Another multi purpose product from The Balm is ‘Stainiac’ which is a hint of tint for lips and cheeks.

I do love some pink blusher, and this combined with a little of the Mary Lou manizer on top is so pretty, and gives a really healthy glow, perfect for spring after months of winter hibernation!

Stainiac is also available from Just My Look for £11.90, with a discount of 15%

Urban Decay

What is a refresh of your makeup bag without a new lipstick? I have a bit of a love hate relationship with lipstick, I’ve tried so many but always feel like they make me look a bit like a clown. I’ve now discovered that the (rather obvious) trick is to find the right colour. And this, for me, is it.

This is the Urban Decay Sheer Vice Lipstick in the shade ‘Sheer Liar’. It’s a very pretty nude colour with a hint of pink, and I’ve been wearing it every day, which is pretty unheard of for me when it comes to lipstick!

Available from Urban Decay for £16.50

Real Techniques

Lastly, I went for this Real Techniques travel make-up brush set.

Real Techniques brushes are made with Taklon bristles, meaning they’re ultra-plush, smooth & 100% cruelty-free. The travel set contains three brushes from the collection – the foundation brush, the domed eyeshadow brush and the multi task brush. They also come in a really nifty travel case, which will help keep them clean, and also turns into a stand to make them easily accessible while you apply your makeup.

The travel set is from Just My Look and currently has 52% off the RRP, at £10.50.

Treat yourself.. it’s Valentines Day, and I really recommend it!

Please note, the items I have chosen are suitable for vegans, but not all items from The Balm and Urban Decay are quite yet. There is a list of vegan friendly products from The Balm here and a list of vegan friendly products from Urban Decay here . All of the products in the Real Techniques range are suitable for vegans.

Some of these items were kindly gifted to me by Just My Look for the purpose of review, however all opinions are my own
